Clacton & District Dog Training Club

The Obedience Section of the Club meets on Monday evenings (except Bank Holidays) at the United Reform Church in Carnarvon Road,  Clacton-on-Sea. Classes begin at 7:00pm and last for one hour. Starter courses begin on the first Monday of each month.

Please Note !! As places on the Starter Course are limited, you will need to pre book by coming along and registering prior to starting. A small deposit is required to secure a place.

The aim of the classes is to introduce dog owners to the basics of training your pet dog in a kind and gentle manner. All training is reward-based and no harsh methods are used.

When attending classes it is advisable to wear casual clothing and flat, non-slip shoes.

It is preferred that your dog is fitted with a normal collar and lead for training. Choke chains, harnesses and extending leads are not really suitable for this purpose. Tidbits for your dog are also needed as a reward for good behaviour. A handful of dry dog food may be just as good as expensive treats just as long as your dog enjoys eating it! If your dog is not food orientated a suitable toy can be used as a reward instead.

The Club not only welcomes puppies, but also dogs of all ages who need to be taught basic obedience so that their behaviour is acceptable both to their owner and anyone they should meet. Obviously, a dog cannot be trained in a one hour class, once a week, so all of our training methods are designed so that you, the owner, can carry on training at home, in a consistent fashion, when time allows. In other words we train the owner so they can carry on training the dog at home.

If you have already done some training with your dog, and do not consider yourself to be a beginner, but would like to continue further, we hold a more advanced class at 8:00pm after the beginners class.
